A young person is an alternative term for a Person who is a Youth , Teenager , Juvenile or Minor . NEW ZEALAND In New Zealand law, as defined by section 2 of the Children, Young Persons, And Their Families Act 1989 , a young person means a boy or girl of or over the age of 14 years but under 17 years; but does not include any person who is or has been married or in a civil union. That same law defines a ''child'' as being a boy or girl under the age of 14 years. This legal distinction is made because children and young people can be treated in different ways under child protection and youth justice legislation. |
