Information About

Welding Procedure Specification

The American Welding Society (AWS) defines the Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) as a document providing in detail the required welding variables for specific application to assure repeatability by properly trained welders and welding operators.

The American Society For Mechanical Engineers (ASME) similarly defines Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) as a written document that provides direction to the welder or welding operator for making production welds in accordance with Code requirements.

A typical [http://www.cspec.com/sample/WPS-page1.htm Welding Procedure Specification (WPS)] will be written to meet the requirements of a specific code or standard (e.g. ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, Section IX, Welding and Brazing Qualifications).

Depending on the application code, a welding procedure specification may be [http://www.cspec.com/sample/pWPS-page1.htm prequalified], or require qualification by a supporting test weld where the welding parameters and test results are recorded on a [http://www.cspec.com/sample/PQR-page1.htm welding procedure qualification record(PQR)].
