Travel plans are becoming increasingly common in the UK. The general aim is to reduce the negative effects of traffic upon business, individuals, communities or the environment. A Real-estate Developer in the UK will often be required to provide a travel plan as part of a Section 106 agreement under the Town And Country Planning Act 1990 or may have a travel plan requested as a condition to gaining planning consent. Proposals generally include mechanisms to reduce the need to use a car and to promote and provide for Sustainable Transport through marketing initiatives, contributions to public transport and walking and cycling infrastructure. The first travel plans in the UK were adopted in Nottingham by Nottinghamshire County Council in 1995. SEE ALSO EXTERNAL LINKS
