The magazine was launched in 1998 as a spin-off of Travel + Leisure . The current editor in chief, John Atwood, previously worked at Men's Journal and Sports Afield . John Rodenburg, a longtime publishing veteran at Time Inc. 's Sports Illustrated , joined ''Travel + Leisure Golf'' as publisher in 2005.
