Information About

Thorpe Coombe Hospital

HISTORY

The hospital was opened as a Maternity hospital in 1934 , making use of part of a mansion which had been owned by Octavius Wigram . It ceased maternity facilities in 1973 and was subsequently used as a nurses' home, then a treatment centre for Alzheimer's Disease patients, and latterly an out-patients Psychiatric Hospital .

Never a large hospital (as a maternity hospital it had 70 beds), today it predominately houses administrative staff: it is the base for the local community mental health team. It does however still offer some out-patient treatment for children and teenagers.
