Texas's 3rd Congressional District




Texas District 3 of the ''' United States House Of Representatives ''' is a Congressional district that serves an area north and northeast of Dallas . It encompasses a large portion of Collin County including McKinney , Plano and parts of Dallas County including parts of Richardson , Garland and Dallas. As of the 2000 Census , District 3 represents 651,620 people who are predominantly Caucasian (76.7%) and middle-to-upper-class (median family income is US$ 74,314, compared to $50,046 nationwide). The current Representative from District 3 is Sam Johnson and has been since 1991 .

Incumbent Sam Johnson (R- Plano ) faced Dan Dodd , Democrat from McKinney and Libertarian Christopher J. Claytor in the general election. This district is dominated by the Republican stronghold of Collin County, as well as Garland , another large Dallas suburb.
