Texarkana, Texas is a municipal designation in Bowie County, Texas , United States with a population of 64,214 ,(of both cities),at the 2000 Census which forms the western half of Texarkana . It is separated from Texarkana, Arkansas , by State Line Avenue . It is one of two co-principal cities of the Texarkana, Texas - Texarkana, Arkansas Metropolitan Statistical Area , which encompasses all of Bowie County, Texas, and Miller County, Arkansas The population of Texarkana, Tx is 35,699 according to http://www.bestplaces.net/city/Texarkana_TX-54872368000.aspx. Texarkana was the original headquarters of the Clyde E. Palmer chain of Newspapers , Radio stations, and the Television station now known as KTAL-TV , which operates the second tallest television tower in the American South from Vivian in northern Caddo Parish , Louisiana. Palmer's flagship publication was the '' Texarkana Gazette '', which began in 1875. He acquired it from the consolidation of other papers in Texarkana. His other publications included the ''Camden News'', the '' Hot Springs Sentinel Record '', and the ''Hope Star'' in the Hempstead County community where U.S. President Bill Clinton was born. Long after Palmer's death, the company, renamed WEHCO Media , acquired the former '' Arkansas Gazette '' in Little Rock, and the consolidated publication became the '' Arkansas Democrat-Gazette ''. Among other differences with Texarkana, Arkansas is that the Texas side sells Lottery tickets. GEOGRAPHY Texarkana, Texas is located at (33.437170, -94.067394). It is in the Central Time Zone . According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 66.6 Km&2 (25.7 Mi&2 ). 66.4 km&2 (25.6 mi&2) of it is land and 0.3 km&2 (0.1 mi&2) of it (0.39%) is water. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 64,214 people, 13,569 households, and 8,941 families residing in the city. The Population Density was 524.0/km&2 (1,357.3/mi&2). There were 15,105 housing units at an average density of 227.5/km&2 (589.4/mi&2). The racial makeup of the city was 59.18% White , 37.05% African American , 0.34% Native American , 0.73% Asian , 0.05% Pacific Islander , 1.43% from Other Races and 1.22% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.91% of the population. There were 13,569 households out of which 31.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.5% were Married Couples living together, 19.3% have a female householder with no husband present and 34.1% were non-families. 29.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 3.01. In the city the population was spread out with 26.0% under the age of 18, 10.0% from 18 to 24, 27.6% from 25 to 44, 20.7% from 45 to 64, and 15.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 89.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.4 males. The median income for a household in the city was $29,727, and the median income for a family was $38,505. Males had a median income of $34,155 versus $21,143 for females. The Per Capita Income for the city was $17,815. About 19.4% of families and 24.0% of the population were below the Poverty Line , including 34.8% of those under age 18 and 13.2% of those age 65 or over.
