The is an organization for people of Taiwan ese descent in the San Diego, California area.
The Taiwanese American Foundation of San Diego (TAFSD) was founded in 1996 with the dedication and commitment of the Taiwanese American Community in San Diego. TAFSD is incorporated in the State of California as a Nonprofit , public, and charitable organization. Donations to TAFSD are tax deductible. The Taiwanese American Community Center (TACC) is an operational unit of TAFSD.
The Taiwanese American Foundation of San Diego aims to strengthen and enhance the Taiwanese American individual and family life in San Diego by:
- Engaging in charitable, educational and community activities that promote Taiwanese American culture and tradition in a diverse society.
- Promoting the health and social well-being of members of the Taiwanese American community and enhancing their quality life.
- Providing assistance to immigrants and other newcomers to the Taiwanese American.
TAFSD is dedicated to:
- Promoting Taiwanese American culture in a diverse society.
- Promoting the social well-being of members of the Taiwanese American community.
- Providing assistance to immigrants and newcomers to the greater community of San Diego.
TACC is currently located at 7170 Convoy Court, San Diego, CA 92111. The 8,400 sq. ft (780 m&2) facility houses an impressive auditorium with a 250-person capacity, a library with more than 10,000 volumes, an art gallery, a gym, a conference room, a playroom for children, two classrooms, and a full-equipped kitchen.
TAFSD activities are open to all people who are interested in Taiwanese American culture. It:
- Provides an annual "Trip to Taiwan" award in the Greater San Diego Technology & Science Fair.
- Provides four to six $500 scholarships annually to graduating high school seniors in the Greater San Diego area.
- Provides scholarships to the University Of Nevada for the Taiwanese-American Professor Exchange Program.
- Sponsors a variety of cultural activities. A "Taiwanese American Heritage Week" is held annually in May. "Culture and History Lecture Series" is held on a quarterly basis.
- TACC facilitates gathering opportunities for Taiwanese-Americans in San Diego. Its programs for Senior Citizen s include free health clinics, health seminars, and recreational activities. It also provides family and marriage counseling and many other services.
- TACC participates in health and other social welfare functions in the San Diego area.
- TACC hosts many clubs to accommodate various interests of members in the community. These clubs include the Senior Club, Chinese Opera Club, Folk Dance Club, Book Club, Bridge Club, Chinese Chess Club, Line Dance Club, Hiking Club, Movie Club, Youth Chess Club, and a Women's Club.
- TACC provides social, fitness, and learning classes for the Taiwanese-American community. These include classes in aerobics, cooking, kendo, calligraphy, intermediate Japanese, and tai-ji-quan.
- ACC provides classes on English for new immigrants and Taiwanese at no charge.
