''Spilargis'' is a Spider Genus of the Salticidae family (jumping spiders). Its sole species, ''S. ignicolor'', occurs in New Guinea . A subspecies, ''S. ignicolor bimaculata'', is found on the Moluccas . NAME The genus name is probably derived from the Ancient Greek roots ''spil-'' "spot" and ''arg-'' "shining". The species name is Latin for "the color of fire". ''bimaculata'' is Latin for "with two spots". |
