On February 26 , the Slovene final was held at the RTVSLO studios in Ljubljana , and was hosted by Mojca Mavec . There were 17 songs in the final, and the winner was decided by experts - one of whom was Marc Roberts , who had represented Ireland in 1997 - and televoting, with the televotes only counting for a third of the overall result. The favourite amongst the televoters was ''Zakaj''.

It was the second time that Darja Švajger represented Slovenia, having represented her country in the 1995 Contest . She also entered the heats for the 1993 , 1997 and 1998 Contests. Nuša Derenda would go on to represent the country in 2001 . In Jerusalem , Darja received 50 points, finishing 11th.
