SUMMARY

The Rhode Island Regiment was formed on 1 January , 1781 from the consolidation of the 1st Rhode Island Regiment and the 2nd Rhode Island Regiment and assigned to the '''New Hampshire Brigade''' of the main Continental Army . The regiment was re-assigned on 18 June , 1781 to the '''2d Connecticut Brigade'''. On 28 August , 1781 the regiment was re-assigned to '''Hazan's Brigade''''. On 24 September , 1781 the regiment was re-assigned to the '''New Jersey Brigade'''. On 22 December , 1781 the regiment was relieved from the brigade and assigned to the Middle Department. It was re-assigned to the main Continental Army on 15 May , 1782 and then to the '''2d Connecticut Brigade''' on 29 August , 1782 . On 28 October , 1782 the regiment was relieved from the brigade and the main army and assigned to the Northern Department. It was reorganized to six companies of volunteers on 1 March , 1783 and was redesignated as the Rhode Island Battalion .
