The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) provides Public Transportation , primarily Bus es, in the state of Rhode Island. They also operate a CNG-powered Tourist Trolley service called the Providence LINK and a ferry boat from Providence to Newport during the summer season. It also has an exclusive bus tunnel under College Hill known as the East Side Trolley Tunnel . The RIPTA system is focused around Kennedy Plaza , a large bus terminal in the heart of Downtown, Providence . The RIPTA was created in 1966 by the Rhode Island General Assembly to supervise what had been previously a system of privately run bus and trolley systems. CURRENT BUS FLEET This fleet does not include various cutaway vans used on Flex-Shuttle routes or some light use fixed routes, or the 20 trolley replicas numbered 1-20.
RIPTA has also operated GMC "New Look" , Volvo B10M , GMC RTS and Neoplan AN-440A buses. EXTERNAL LINKS |
