The Punjabi Market or '''Little India''' is a small commercial district in Vancouver , British Columbia officially recognized by the city as being primarily Indo-Canadian businesses. This is a 5 block section of Main Street around 49th Avenue in the Sunset neighbourhood. There are a number of Indian restaurants, sweet shops, grocers and Punjabi video stores as well as other businesses that cater primarily to an Indo-Canadian Market. LITTLE INDIA Little India or the Vancouver Punjabi Market is a very big tourist attraction in the city, also like the Chinatown in Downtown Vancouver. With over 160000 South Asians, mostly Sikh Punjabi Indians, the Punjabi Market Caters to all these people, and plus more. Punjabi Market is on a section of 5 blocks on Main St in Vancouver. Little India is only 10 min. from downtown. WHAT TO DO Little India offers many kinds of shops, such as a fashion store created by Bollywood actor, Sunil Shetty , restaurants and Hindi video stores. The market is a shopping destination for many Indian weddings because of the Indian ethnic clothing and bridal goods available. FESTIVALS Every year the near by Sikh Temple in April celebrate Vaisakhi in and around the Punjabi Market, with a huge parade, where over 200,000 people come together from all races and religions to celebrate the birth of the Sikh religion.
