Preston (electoral District)




It is the province's smallest riding, with a population of 11,640. The riding was created in 1993 to provide representation to the area's rural black community. About one third of the riding is black, mostly living in the communities of North Preston , East Preston and Cherybrook .

In 1998, Yvonne Atwell ran in Preston for the Nova Scotia New Democratic Party and became the first black woman to be elected to the provincial legislature.
