Information About

Personal Chef

A ''personal chef'' is a Chef that goes to a client's home and prepares meals for their client based on their needs and personal preferences. Unlike a private chef that purchases the ingredients, prepares the meal, and cleans up after the dinner, a personal chef will leave meals prepared in the client's home for them to enjoy later. The menu is preplanned and discussed with the client, then prepared in their home. All food must be prepared in the home of the client according to health department guidelines. Few, if any, jurisdictions require certification of personal chefs.

Prior to the days when the personal chef service is requested, a menu and a budget are submitted for the client's approval. Typically, the chef is given approval, a deposit, or (if familiar with the guest/frequent client) an expense account for the menu. The client pays for this in addition to the cost of the chef's services and gratuity.

Personal chefs also provide meal planning and budget planning for homeowners and second homeowners that are busy with their own lives, but insist on nutritious and tasty meals for their families. Personal Chef's are often Chef's who have worked as Executive Chefs for restaurants or hotels that prefer the personal setting of intimate dinners but most personal chefs do not have culinary degrees but are excellent cooks.
