Pendil Novices Chase




The race is named in honour of Pendil , winner of the King George VI Chase in 1972 and 1973 and twice beaten favourite in the Cheltenham Gold Cup . Prior to 1993 it was run under the title of the Galloway Braes Novices' Chase in honour of Galloway Braes, winner of the King George VI Chase in 1953.

Before 1990 it was run over a distance of 2 miles (3,219 metres) and from 1990 to 1992 it was run over 2 miles 4 furlongs (4,023 metres).
