The Pacific Classic Stakes is an American Thoroughbred Horse Race for Thoroughbred Race Horse s aged three years or older run on synthetic dirt over a distance of one and one-quarter miles (10 furlongs, 2km). The race is held on the third Sunday in August and currently offers a purse of $1,000,000. A preparation for the Breeders' Cup Classic , since 1993 it has had Grade 1 status.

The Pacific Classic Stakes is the prestige event of the Del Mar Racetrack in Del Mar, California as one of the top races on the West Coast . This year's renewal of the Pacific Classic is a part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge , where the winner of the race will automatically earn a spot in the 2007 Breeders' Cup Classic at Monmouth Park .

On August 24 2003 Julie Krone became the first female rider to win a million-dollar horse race when she rode Jenny And Sidney Craig's Candy Ride to victory in the Pacific Classic while setting a new track record of 1:59.11 for the 1¼ miles distance.

Previously raced on dirt, in 2007 for the first time the race was run on Del Mar Racetrack's new synthetic Polytrack surface.
