Pacific Blue Airlines (NZ) Limited is a Low-cost Airline based in Christchurch , New Zealand . It currently operates low-fare, high quality leisure services between New Zealand and Australia, and to the Pacific Islands. It also operates services on behalf of Polynesian Blue . Its main bases are Christchurch International Airport and Auckland International Airport .1.


HISTORY


The airline was established in 2003 and started operations in January 2004 with a service between Christchurch and Brisbane , Australia . It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Virgin Blue .. The airline operates 108 services a week throughout Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific.

As of the first flights of 1st August 2007 (local date) the ICAO was changed from PBI to PBN. This was done in consultation with air traffic controllers to prevent confusion between the letter I and the number 1 in flight plans.

Virgin Blue and Pacific Blue have announced the start of domestic services in New Zealand . These services will be operated by Pacific Blue and are expected to begin in early 2008. Pacific Blue has placed an order for 2 new Boeing 737-800 's to operate on the New Zealand domestic services. Up to now Pacific Blue only operated International flights from New Zealand to Australia. The first routes will most likely be Christchurch to Auckland , Christchurch to Wellington and Auckland to Wellington . More routes may be planned after the service has began.
