Information About

Open Source Web Design

The Open Source Web Design project was founded in September, 2000 by Francis J. Skettino. The goal was to provide the Free Software Community with Web Templates free of charge.

FIRST SPLIT

In November of 2005, OSWD had their hosting account deactivated, which was covered on Slashdot . Slashdot's OSWD Article After weeks of waiting for Francis to get new hosting, the staff decided to move its contributions to a new website called Open Web Design (OWD). Many of the once loyal members of OSWD made the switch over to OWD, although some stayed.

LACK OF UPDATES

After the split, for several months, OSWD went without a single update. This led to a majority of the remaining members to switch over to Open Web Design. Users that remained quickly grew annoyed with the continued lack of updates and design approvals. This led to creation of countless posts that expressed anger, annoyance, and various forms of disrespect. Due to this, Francis shut down the forums and removed all indications of when the site had last been updated.

SECOND SPLIT

Open Web Design was later sold to Shay. Open Web Design community became a great resource for owners sharing free web design templates as well as web design information, and since then have excelled with the amount of user interaction, and users enjoying free downloads and providing free information.
