The following chart shows historic election results. Bold type indicates victor. ''Italic type'' indicates incumbent.

Redistricting following the 1980 Census eliminated the 22nd district and put Eckart in the 11th District . In 1982, Eckart won re-election from that district.

Prior to 1968, Vanik had been the incumbent representative for the 21st District . However, in 1968, he moved to the 22nd district, resulting in a race between two incumbents.

In 1940, after the death in office of Chester Bolton, Frances Bolton (his wife) was elected in a special election to fill out his term.

Possible error in records: Simon B. Fitzsimmons , the Democratic nominee in 1928, is likely the same person as Sam B. Fitzsimmons , the Democratic nominee in 1924. No indication which is the correct name.
