Redistricting following the 1990 Census eliminated the 20th district and put Oakar in the 10th District . In 1992, she lost the 10th district race to Republican Martin R. Hoke .

After Mooney's death in office in 1931, Sweeney was elected in a special election to fill out the remainder of Mooney's term.
