Oakbrook Terrace is a city in DuPage County , Illinois , a Suburb of Chicago . The population was 2,300 at the 2000 census. A 2003 recount gave the city a population of 2,293. POINTS OF INTEREST Oakbrook Terrace Tower, an octagonal 31-story office building, was designed by Helmut Jahn and built in 1987. It is the tallest building in Illinois outside the city limits of Chicago . The 418-foot tower has 773,000 square-feet of office space. and Hilton Garden Inn . GEOGRAPHY Oakbrook Terrace is located at (41.853720, -87.968250). According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 3.6 Km&2 (1.4 Mi&2 ), all land. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 2,300 people, 1,198 households, and 553 families residing in the city. The Population Density was 638.9/km&2 (1,651.2/mi&2). There were 1,327 housing units at an average density of 368.6/km&2 (952.7/mi&2). The racial makeup of the city was 80.52% White , 4.13% African American , 12.22% Asian , 0.04% Pacific Islander , 0.87% from Other Races , and 2.22% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.13% of the population. There were 1,198 households out of which 14.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 37.9% were Married Couples living together, 6.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 53.8% were non-families. 46.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 1.92 and the average family size was 2.77. In the city the population was spread out with 13.6% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 33.6% from 25 to 44, 27.4% from 45 to 64, and 17.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 89.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.8 males. The median income for a household in the city was $59,148, and the median income for a family was $85,374. Males had a median income of $60,563 versus $45,000 for females. The Per Capita Income for the city was $44,345. About 2.7% of families and 3.3% of the population were below the Poverty Line , including 2.2% of those under age 18 and 10.1% of those age 65 or over.
