North American Bridge Championships




The most important events of the championships are the open team competitions. The trophies (cups) awarded are ''Spingold'' (held in Summer NABCs), ''Vanderbilt'' (held in Spring NABCs) and ''Reisinger'' (held in Fall NABCs).

VANDERBILT TROPHY

The Vanderbilt Trophy was donated in 1928 by Harold S. Vanderbilt , who won the event in 1932 and 1940. Vanderbilt Knockout Teams were contested annually in New York as a separate championship until 1958, when it was incorporated into Spring NABCs.


SPINGOLD TROPHY

Spingold Knockout teams have been held since 1930, when they were known as the ''Asbury Park Trophy''.
In 1934, 1936 and 1937 there was a separate Masters Teams-of-Four event.
The two events were merged in 1938.
The Spingold Trophy was donated by Nathan Spingold in 1934, and the merged events were renamed ''Spingold Master Knockout Teams'' in 1938.
The event is part of Summer NABCs.

Since 2001, there has also been a Mini-Spingold I (0-5000), restricted to those with less than 5,000 Masterpoints , and a Mini-Spingold II (0-1500) ("Micro-Spingold") restricted to those with less than 1,500 Masterpoints .


REISINGER TROPHY

Reisinger teams is the only major team competition with Board-a-match Scoring . It is an open team event scored with two qualifying sessions, two semifinal sessions and two final sessions. It was known as the Chicago Trophy from 1929, when it was founded, until 1965, when it was renamed in honor of Curt Reisinger , a great benefactor and official of the ACBL.


SPRING CHAMPIONSHIP

The spring championship is typically held in the central part of North America.

The Mott-Smith Trophy is awarded to the player with the most Masterpoints from the Spring NABC.


SUMMER CHAMPIONSHIP

The summer championship is typically held in the eastern part of North America.

The Fishbein Trophy is awarded to the player with the most Masterpoints from the Summer NABC.


FALL CHAMPIONSHIP

The fall championship is typically held in the western part of North America.
