New Jersey 's Eleventh Congressional District is currently represented by Republican Rodney Frelinghuysen . The district is a suburban Republican leaning district that is centered in Morris County . The district was held by Democrats for over 40 years before Republican Dean Gallo defeated 22-year incumbent Democrat Joseph Minish . Since then, the district has become one of the most reliably Republican districts in the Northeast. The Democrats have not made a serious bid for the seat since Minish's defeat. Although Republicans have a large advantage in registration, it tends to elect moderate Republicans. This, however, does not translate to success for Democrats during bad years for Republicans.
