The operates part of the former
Boston & Maine Conway Branch between
Rollinsford and
Ossipee, New Hampshire . The railroad's primary traffic is quarried sand. It interchanges cars with
Guilford Rail System in
Dover where they are then taken to Boston Sand & Gravel in Massachusetts.
Other than the Boston gravel train, NHN also serves its own satellite gravel facility in
Rochester, New Hampshire as well as Eastern Propane at the same location.
NHN runs an average of 2 trains approximately 5 days a week, one southbound, and one northbound. The trains, labeled DOBO (Dover-Boston) and BODO (Boston-Dover) generally arrive at the pit in Ossipee around 1100hrs and depart for the GRS interchange around 1400hrs. "Shuttle" trains are run as needed to bring sand and gravel to the facility in Rochester. Until recently, when they were replaced with GP38-2's, the trains ran with several GP9's.
