However, neither of these bands was the first to use the name Near Death Experience. That distinction belongs to a band which formed in Lawrence, KS in 1984, which achieved a great deal of notoriety in the Midwestern punk/alternative scene between then and their last show in 1987. Their best-known song was the infamous "Dolphin Torture", documented on the 1986 vinyl compilation LP "Fresh Sounds from Middle America, Volume 3". |
