GEOGRAPHY Monroe is located at (38.629338, -112.120275) According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 9.2 Km&2 (3.5 Mi&2 ), all land. Monroe is home to naturally occurring Hot Springs with Travertine deposits, a result of the Monroe-Red Hill geothermal system found along the Sevier fault. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 1,845 people, 636 households, and 511 families residing in the city. The Population Density was 201.2/km&2 (521.7/mi&2). There were 707 housing units at an average density of 77.1/km&2 (199.9/mi&2). The racial makeup of the city was 95.83% White , 0.22% African American , 1.41% Native American , 0.27% Asian , 0.11% Pacific Islander , 0.65% from Other Races , and 1.52% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.01% of the population. There were 636 households out of which 37.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.5% were Married Couples living together, 8.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 19.5% were non-families. 18.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.90 and the average family size was 3.31. In the city the population was spread out with 32.2% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 21.2% from 25 to 44, 23.0% from 45 to 64, and 15.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 90.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.0 males. The median income for a household in the city was $34,907, and the median income for a family was $37,415. Males had a median income of $31,797 versus $17,981 for females. The Per Capita Income for the city was $14,331. About 5.0% of families and 7.7% of the population were below the Poverty Line , including 7.4% of those under age 18 and 8.1% of those age 65 or over.
