Mississippi Highway 19 ('''MS 19''') is a State Highway in Mississippi . It runs for 103 miles, serving the counties of Holmes , Attala , Winston , Neshoba , Newton , and Lauderdale . On June 21 , 1964 , civil rights workers James Chaney , Andrew Goodman , and Mickey Schwerner were driving on MS 19 from Philadelphia to Meridian after being released from the Neshoba County Jail. The three were evenutally pulled over by Cecil Price , a deputy with the Neshoba County Sheriff's department. Chaney, Goodman, and Schwerner were eventually murdered by Ku Klux Klan members and buried in an earthen dam (see Mississippi Civil Rights Worker Murders ). LOCALES ON ROUTE From North to South
