Information AboutMississippi Coast Coliseum |
|
It is home to the Mississippi Sea Wolves Ice Hockey team. Due to damages to the arena by heavy flooding and winds, from Hurricane Katrina in August 2005 , the Mississippi Sea Wolves cancelled their 2005-2006 season, at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. Because repairs have not yet been completed, the Sea Wolves suspended operations again the following season, but plan to return in the fall of 2007. It is also home to the Gulf Coast Bandits , a Basketball team that plays in the WBA . The Gulf Coast Bandits cancelled their 2006 season for the same reasons as the Sea Wolves and also probably won't return in 2007. The Mississippi Firedogs of the National Indoor Football League is another past tenant. The team folded in 2003 , but there were plans for another gridiron team, the Mississippi Headhunters , to begin play in Af2 in 2006 before Katrina hit. The Headhunters then moved its office to the Jackson, Mississippi , area hoping for a new arena there, but no such venue has materialized and the team is on indefinite suspension from af2. However, the Coliseum has been mentioned as home to a possible separate expansion team for the 2008 season. It also holds an annual rock fest, known to the locals as THE CPR FEST. It is presented by the local radio station 97.9 WCPR. It consists of various popular rock artists. From 1996 - 2005, the event was held outside, on the coliseum grounds. In 2006 the event was the first to be held inside the Coliseum. Such bands as Three Days Grace, Hinder, & Staind have performed at the event. In 2007 such bands as Daughtry, Saliva, and Puddle of Mudd will perform. Visit here for more info on this years event: CPR FEST Additional entertainment such as several fairs and concerts occur here. The Annual Crawfish Festival, is a great success. It has had local & some popular bands perform since 2003. Mississippi Coast Coliseum |
