The Mississippi Braves or '''M-Braves''' are a Minor League Baseball team based in Pearl, Mississippi , a suburb of Jackson . The team is the Class AA affiliate of the Atlanta Braves , and plays in the Southern League . The team is owned and operated by the Atlanta Braves.

Trustmark Park , which opened in 2005, is their home field. The park has 5,500 chair-back seats and a grass berm beyond the outfield walls with room for an additional 2,000 general admission customers. Trustmark Park also features a 360 degree concourse, video screen scoreboard behind the left-center field wall, free standing Crystal Springs Ford/Lincoln/Mercury Cafe beyond the right field wall, a picnic pavilion, twenty-two luxury suites, 150 closed-circuit TVs positioned around the stadium, two merchandise shops, and nine baseball-themed concession stands.

On June 1, 2007 manager Phillip Wellman went on a tirade against the umpires during a game. He protested bad strike and ball calls by covering home plate with dirt, then tracing in the dirt a new, significantly larger home plate. He then went on to uproot bases and throw them, crawl across the infield like a soldier and hurl the rosin bag at an umpire as if it were a grenade. He concluded his tirade by signaling throwing the third base umpire out of the game, then blowing a farewell kiss to the crowd while taking a bow. The episode was broadcast on sports shows across the country, and the tirade resulted in a three-game suspension for Wellman.

PRIOR FRANCHISE HISTORY

From 1984 to 2004 , the club was based in Greenville, South Carolina and known as the Greenville Braves . Due to the condition of the team's stadium, and the failure to reach a deal with the Greenville County Council for a new one, the team pursued relocation. Before the start of play in 2004, the team reached a deal to relocate to Pearl, Mississippi, after the season.
