Based on Per Capita Income , one of the more reliable measures of affluence, Mill Creek ranks 19th of 522 areas in the state of Washington to be ranked. HISTORY Mill Creek was officially incorporated on August 30 , 1983 . The city has rapidly grown with large number of families and jobs and now contains a mixed-use, city-sponsored complex called Mill Creek Town Center . Before the turn of the century much of Mill Creek was woods, but recently many apartment complexes have been built all along Bothell-Everett Highway and some other roads throughout the city. This has attributed to a much larger High school, going from a 2A school at its inception ( 1994 ) to a 4A school at around 2,000 students. EDUCATION Mill Creek is also home to Henry M. Jackson High School which won the 2006 4A State Baseball Championship. All schools are part of the Everett School District . The Other Schools in the are, Mill Creek Elementary, and Heatherwood Middle School. With Gateway Middle School also being apaart of the Jackson. Jackson sports have been on the rise ever since the Brent Lillibridge era. With Brent being drafted in the top 4 rounds of the MLB draft, he is currently playing in the Atlanta Braves AAA team. Also with Travis Snider another prospect of Jackson High School baseball, being selected 14th overall in the 2006 Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays. This year Jake Gelakoska playing football at Oregon State University. Drew and Jamie Eisinger receiving full rides to Eastern Washington University. Also Dani Oster playing at Oregon University with a full ride in Soccer. GEOGRAPHY Mill Creek is located at (47.861763, -122.204408). According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 9.2 Km&2 (3.6 Mi&2 ), all land. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 11,525 people, 4,631 households, and 3,250 families residing in the city. The Population Density was 1,246.5/km&2 (3,231.3/mi&2). There were 4,769 housing units at an average density of 515.8/km&2 (1,337.1/mi&2). The racial makeup of the city was 81.49% White , 1.41% African American , 0.43% Native American , 12.64% Asian , 0.25% Pacific Islander , 1.12% from Other Races , and 2.65% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.25% of the population. There were 4,631 households out of which 32.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.8% were Married Couples living together, 5.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.8% were non-families. 24.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 2.98. In the city the population was spread out with 24.3% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 27.1% from 45 to 64, and 11.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 93.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.6 males. Educational levels within the city stand at 95% High School Graduate or higher (7352), and 47.7% Bachelors Degree or higher (3688). The median income for a household in the city was $69,702, and the median income for a family was $87,263. Males had a median income of $59,070 versus $39,138 for females. The Per Capita Income for the city was $36,234. About 3.0% of families and 3.5% of the population were below the Poverty Line , including 3.2% of those under age 18 and 3.6% of those age 65 or over. MILL CREEK SPORTS Aside from the high school sports, Mill Creek is known for having a pretty strong little league. Since starting in the early 90's, Mill creek has made it to the state tournament countless times with 9-10, 10-11, and 11-12 year old teams. Two of the greatest teams were the 1999 and 2002 11-12 all-star teams. Both won the state tournament and made it to the Northwest regionals in San Bernidino. No Mill Creek teams have ever made it to the Little League World Series in Williamsport. Recent state championship teams include the 2004 9-10 year old all-star team ,2004 11 year old all-star team and the 2007 11 year old all-star team (Note: 9-10's and 10-11's do not advance past state.) Other Mill Creek temas have fared well in state with the 2005 11-12 and 10-11 all-stars coming 2nd in state and 2006 11-12 all-stars coming in 3rd. EXTERNAL LINKS |
