Military Airlift Command (MAC) was a former United States Air Force command. In addition to the primary transport aircraft units, MAC also served as the headquarters for several independent "services." Air Weather Service (AWS), Air Rescue Service (ARS which latter became Aerospace Rescue Recovery Service, ARRS), Special Airlift Mission (SAM), Air Photographic and Charting Service (APCS), and the Aeromedical Transport Wing (AMTW). MAC and the Aerial Refueling assets of the Strategic Air Command were merged to form the Air Mobility Command in 1992. MAC was formed from the former Military Air Transport Service (MATS). |
