Information About

Michigan Elibrary

MeL is the state's digital library and is one of the oldest online libraries on the Internet (beginning in 1992 with the gopher GoMLink, which is now MeL Internet.) MeL has three components: MeL Internet, over 25,000 librarian-selected and evaluated web sites in all topic areas and available free to anyone; MeL Databases, over 40 commercial databases that are accessible only to Michigan residents; and MeLCat, which is a statewide borrowing system that allows users to place their own interlibrary loan requests if they belong to a participating library. An upcoming component of MeL is digitized collections of primary resource materials in Michigan history.
