GEOGRAPHY Mercer is located at (40.511846, -93.529509). According to the United States Census Bureau , the town has a total area of 0.9 Km&2 (0.3 Mi&2 ), all land. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 342 people, 165 households, and 97 families residing in the town. The Population Density was 377.3/km&2 (966.3/mi&2). There were 193 housing units at an average density of 212.9/km&2 (545.3/mi&2). The racial makeup of the town was 99.42% White , 0.29% Native American , and 0.29% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.29% of the population. There were 165 households out of which 24.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.7% were Married Couples living together, 9.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 41.2% were non-families. 38.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 24.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.07 and the average family size was 2.75. In the town the population was spread out with 21.6% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 23.7% from 25 to 44, 20.8% from 45 to 64, and 27.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 81.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 77.5 males. The median income for a household in the town was $23,906, and the median income for a family was $27,750. Males had a median income of $24,583 versus $16,406 for females.
