''Mathaka Volume 1'' is a 1983 album by the Makgona Tsohle Band , the instrumental backing group for Mahlathini And The Mahotella Queens . This album was the first by the band after reuniting in early 1983; they had disbanded during the late 1970s, though each member continued to work in the music industry. West Nkosi, saxophonist in Makgona Tsohle and a main producer at the Mavuthela division of Gallo Record Company (where Mahlathini, the Queens and Makgona Tsohle were based), had regrouped with his bandmates due to the Mbaqanga music scene being revived; it had faded out in the late 1970s to be replaced by soul, pop and disco (this was the reason why the group disbanded). ''Mathaka Volume 1'' contains 1983 re-recordings of the band's 1960s and 1970s mbaqanga "heyday" hits, such as "Two Mabone", "Sikhulekile", "Vula Bops" and "Kupa Marama". Also included is a recording of the popular tune " A Tear Fell ".
