Marathia (Greek, Modern: , Katharevousa: Μαραθέα), older form: '''Marathea''', also with the third a accented is a Greek located northeast of Karditsa in the northeastern part of the Karditsa Prefecture . Marathia is in the municipality of Sellana . Marathia had a 2001 population of 709 for the village and 967 for the municipal district. The village is situated in the Thessalian Plain .

Its residents are based in Agriculture and other businesses. Its main production are Cotton . In the older times, the village was known as Vanari (Βάναρη) and was renamed to Marathia in the late- 20th Century .

After World War II and the Greek Civil War , the population steadily declined as residents moved to larger towns and cities and the richest countries in the world.
