The school closed its doors for the last time in June 2006 as part of the UK Government 's Building Schools for the Future project. Edge End High School in neighbouring Nelson also closed its doors at the same time, the enrolled students from these two schools were merged into one and the new Marsden Heights Community College is now the secondary school serving this area.


INFORMATION

Mansfield High School comprises four buildings, Western, Rosla , Onward and Derwent. There are two recreation yards, an indoor sports hall, tennis courts, drama hall and a shared grass sports pitch.


ACADEMIC RESULTS

  • -C grades, 86.9% achieving 5 A
    G grades and 97% achieving at least 1 A
    G grade. Below is a subject breakdown of the schools 2005 GCSE Results (including only Effectively Compulsory Subjects ), highlighting the number of students achieving each grade;




PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Led by Mr Gee, Mansfield High School offers a wide range of P.E facilities. An indoor multi use sports hall and an external all weather tennis court ensure that all sports are catered for. Joint use of Bent Head playing fields also means that grass sports are covered.


ICT

Mansfield High School has a wide range of Information Communication Technology equipment due in part, to its previous status as a technology centre.
Two networks (wired and wireless) are in operation at Mansfield High School, and are supported by two separate technical support teams. The curriculum support team comprises 3 members, led by Adam Korol. Responsible for maintaining approximately 250 computers in various classrooms, the team operate from 2 offices. The main location is unofficially known as Area 51 , due to its closed door policy and famous 'No Trespassing - Restricted Area' signs. This room is where testing is carried out and servers are kept, although it is rumoured another secret location for servers exists within the school.
The other location, often referred to as the Skunk Works , is easily accessible and is home to the ICT Helpdesk, as well as being a repair and configuration centre for equipment.


EXTERNAL ACTIVITIES

The staff at Mansfield High School also partake in activities outside of school hours, such as educational trips, Prom Night and sporting events.
One such sports event is a yearly Five-a-side Football tournament, which all local secondary schools enter teams for. Mansfield High Schools staff have won the competition 4 years in a row, and were being compared to Manchester United during their peak.
