Lyle Mason




Lyle D. Mason (born June 27 , 1954 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina ) is a producer with more than 25 years television experience. He attended Germantown High School in Philadelphia and Northeastern University in Boston . He started his television career in 1980 at KYW-TV3 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, his hometown. He left KYW in 1984 and went to rival station WPVI-TV6 when the Bulletin, a Philadelphia newspaper, shut down. Eventually management called, and he went to Baltimore, Maryland , and was made Assignments Manager at WBAL-TV11. The year was 1988. But it was at that station that Mason made a decision that would affect the rest of his television life. he left his job in the newsroom, to become a producer for the programming department.

It was in that position that Mason created and produced two shows, ''Inside Baltimore'' and ''First Sunday with Kweisi Mfume '', then a Maryland Congressman, later to become the President of the NAACP . It is a relationship that continues to this day. Mason has also worked as the Senior Producer for the Emmy award-winning program ''Americas Black Forum'', as well as in several other newsrooms in New York and Washington DC.

He is best remembered however, for his time spent at Black Entertainment Television . (BET) During the 1990's while serving as the producer, then supervising producer for the live half hour entertainment news show ''Screen Scene'', with hosts Kathy Andrews and Harold McCoo, he changed the format and by doing so, increased the viewership for the nationally televised cable show, 150,000 viewers.

He has interviewed celebrities such as Tupac, Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, and Salma Hayek.
