When NDEs ( Near Death Experiences ) became scientifically documented, there was an increased interest in Reincarnation in the Western World. Work by Michael Newton, PhD. in his books on this topic documented this area of Hypnotherapy where he used the Life-Between-Lives (LBL) nomenclature to describe the realm where his subjects traveled to while in a very deep trance and brought back specific information pertinent to their current lives back into this 4-D (height, width, depth, and time) earthly reality. The interest in this process and the information ascertained by his clients (and recorded in his books) helped bring the topic of existence between incarnated lives into the mainstream of the Wetsern metaphysical community. Another (and earlier) notable researcher was neuro-physiologist Dr. Joel Whitton, M.D., Ph.D., Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto Medical School. His book, ''Life Between Life'', (first published in 1986) chronicles the case studies and findings of a thirteen year program of research into the topic using "hypno-regression" techniques. The book was co-authored by Joe Fisher, former reporter for the Toronto ''Sun'' and the Toronto ''Star'', and author of the books ''Predictions'', and ''The Case for Reincarnation''. As Michael Newton, PhD. was aging and approaching full retirement many were concerned that his specific methods for getting his clients into the LBL realm while still in body would be lost. The typical national USA hypnotherapy guilds did not provide him, in his opinion, the appropriate venue for teaching his methods to other hypnotherapists. Finally, NATH (National Association of Transpersonal Hypnotherapists) out of Virginia Beach, VA stepped forward and provided him an acceptable venue and Dr. Newton began to train others in his methods. As time washes on other ''schools'' are engaging in similar training and certification. As with any new therapeutic technique there has been controversy. Also, as with any cutting edge technique there has been a splintering of those initially trained in his methods. Much has changed in terms of teaching and certification of LBL therapists, and the general work in this area. The work of Dr. Newton is being carried on by The Dr. Michael Newton Institute for Life Between Lives Hypnotherapy. There are those who have been trained in the techniques pioneered by Dr. Newton who belong neither to NATH or are members of his Institute carrying on his work. Some have a strong scientific, clinical therapy, or religious background and are examining the LBL experiences of their own and their colleagues or clients perspective rather than a strict psychological perspective. Some are working on their own Therapeutic Clinical Model that will begin to plumb the depths of this new field of experience. The ultimate questions to be answered in this new field of exploration are, "Where does this realm exist from a discernible perspective to most people, how can one be sure that such a place exists and is not the figment of one's imagination, and such a realm is real how it one is able to access it while still in body?" All good questions that need good people to work on them. Several are specifically preferring to remain anonymous until they can use their hard science training (one being a Physicist)or Clinical Certification and training (others are Spiritual counselors/therapists or mainstream therapists) while they work to provide their versions of an acceptable Therapeutic Clinical Model that has the potential of being accepted by science, religion and the main-stream therapeutic community. Their aim is to validate in the near future, beyond a shadow of doubt such a realm exists, and is accessible to all. The most reported difficulty being encountered is adapting to the new breakthroughs happening as the human knowledge base is expanding as such an unprecedented rate. |
