Issaquah High School, also known as Issaquah Senior High School or IHS, is a public Secondary School located in Issaquah, Washington , USA operating under the Issaquah School District . As of 2006 , IHS serves grades 10-12.

HISTORY

Founded in 1905, IHS was the first high school in Issaquah, WA . Most of the current academic buildings were completed in 1962. The student body grew steadily from 1,275 in '98-'99 to 1,619 in '04-'05. At the beginning of the '05-'06 academic year, the student body lost several hundred students due to the inauguration of the Pacific Cascade Freshman Campus and, thus, the removal of ninth grade students. Also, the students of IHS suffered a transportation accident during the second semester of '05-06.

Mascot Controversy

In 2002 , the school changed its Mascot from the Issaquah Indians, which it had used for nearly 100 years, to the Eagles. The change came after The Church Council of Greater Seattle adopted a resolution calling for an end to all Native American imagery in school mascots in 2001 .http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/128482_mascot27.html

In 2002 , following the school board's approval of the Mascot change, approximately 150 students staged a walk-out in protest, leaving class and walking down Second Street and Front Street to the District Administration building. Upon arriving, students presented then-Superintendent Janet Barry with a petition signed by over 500 students, parents, alumni, and members of the community asking the school board to reconsider its decision. The district refused and the change went into effect in 2003 .

Athletics

Issaquah High School won its first WIAA AAA State Championship in 2000 as the baseball team, led by head coach Rob Reese, defeated Skyline High School, 5-3, in the State Championship game at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma, Wash. The school won the title again in 2004 and 2007.

The women's soccer team defeated Seattle Prep for the state title in November of 2006, having previously won the title once before in 2004.

In 2002 the Issaquah Women's Gymnastics team came into the State Championship meet as the lowest-seeded team, but ultimately won the state title that year.

In 2007, Sports Illustrated named Issaquah High School the top high school athletic program in the state of Washington.http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/highschool/06/19/top.state/index.html
