The International Academy of Science (IAS) is an inter- and transnational academy of science. FOUNDATION The IAS was founded together with the International Council of Scientific Development (ICSD) in 1980 by initiative of Linus Pauling , Sir John Kendrew , Lord Alexander Todd , Andrei Sakharov , Konrad Lorenz and Ilya Prigogine (Founding President of the IAS) and many other well known scientists of contemporaneity. Linus Karl Pauling was the Honorary President of IAS till the end of his life. HEADQUARTERS OF THE IAS Headquarters (The Presidium) of the IAS is located in the Castle Tratzberg, Jenbach / Tyrol , ( Austria ). Current President of the IAS H& E is Prof. Dr. Walter Kofler (Austria). Members of the Presidium (Honorary Presidents) of the Academy are the Nobel Prize Laureates: Jean Dausset (France), Johann Deisenhofer (Germany), Brian Josephson (UK), Jerome Karle (USA), Yuan T. Lee (China/USA), Heinrich Rohrer (Switzerland), and well-known scholars Yujiro Ikemi (Japan) and Georg Kahn-Ackermann (Germany). AIMS The objective of the Academy is the promotion of basic and applied research and excellence in science which could lead to effective problem solving in the XXI Century. The general aims of ICSD and IAS are:
MEMBERS AND NETWORK IAS unites about 1200 distinguished scientists and philosophers, politicians and public figures of the world. Among them there are 120 Nobel Prize laureates, more than 30 former and acting ministers and head of states and members of 81 national academies. The ICSD (International Council of Scientific Development)-IAS Network contains over 100 research institutions, National Academies of Sciences, Universities and research centers which as institutional members. National Sections of the Academy were founded and active in: Albania , Austria , Azerbaijan , Brazil , Bulgaria , France , Germany , Greece , India , Japan , Luxembourg , Russia , Slovakia , UK , USA , etc. Members (Full Members and Corresponding Members) of the International Academy of Science are elected (by the National Sections) in recognition of their distinguished achievements in original basic or applied research. Election in the IAS is considered as one of the highest honors that can be accorded a scientist. CONFERENCES (SELECTION)
LEGAL STATUS OF THE IAS The International Academy of Science (e.V.) and the International Council of Scientific Development (e.V.) are registered in the register of societies at the district court Munich, Germany. The Academy is registered as an international non-governmental scientific organization in France , Germany and Austria . The IAS is recognized by UNO and UNESCO . REFERENCES
