A Grade II evet in its 12th running in 2006, the Derby is for three-year-olds of either gender set at a distance of 8 and one half Furlong s on the dirt. (One and one sixteenth of a mile.) It offers a purse of $500,000. Hoosier Park was inaugurated on September 1, 1995 and is also used for Standardbred races with Harness Racing from April to August. The dead heat in the 2006 running is the first dead heat for the Indiana Derby. The result was contested by the owners of Star Dabbler who came out of the race injured. They believed he won the race so took the issue to arbitration but the result was upheld. WINNERS
