HIV Superinfection is a condition in which a person with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus acquires many strains of the virus. This may cause complications and tolerance to medicines. There are 16 cases diagnosed worldwide so far. Many people who have HIV do not use condoms with other HIV-positive sexual partners, particularly gay, bisexual, and MSM men. These men then get more strains of the virus and their HIV may become resistant to treatment and escalate to so-called "full-blown AIDS" in as little as three months with or without treatment, foregoing the usual period of incubation and replication and period of viral undetectability. Getting another strain of HIV is known as reinfection. TRIVIA
