Hattonchatel got its name from the 9th century bishop of Verdun who built the settlement with it Chateau at its center on a rocky promontory overlooking the Seine valley. Cardinal Richelieu had parts of the village and chateau destroyed in 1634. Just after the first world war, Belle Skinner, an American, fell in love with the village and restored the chateau and the ancestral history of the region. As of per today, the Chateau is privately owned by Resorts http://www.ritz-resorts.com and being commercially exploited as an exclusive venue for weddings, seminars and celebrations. |
