Haruna Babangida (born 1 October 1982 in Kaduna ) is a Nigeria n Footballer currently playing for Cypriot club Apollon Limassol .

Babangida is a hard working, quick right Wing who can also play on the left side.
Greek media calls him "pithamogonatos", which means "short knees", because of his height (he's very short).

He is the younger brother of Tijani Babangida and Ibrahim Babangida . Babangida is the eighth of ten brothers.

Striker Haruna Babangida was spotted by AFC Ajax as a teenager in Nigeria and has continued his European odyssey ever since.

Having joined Nigerian club Shooting Stars FC aged seven and shone in the youth teams, Ajax took Babangida to the Netherlands when he was 13. A year later he was snapped up by FC Barcelona , and he was playing with the first-team squad in friendlies when he was 15. However, he did not make the breakthrough and in 2002/03 was loaned to Second Division side Terrassa CF , before spending the following season playing for Barcelona's Youth Team and Cádiz CF , in that time making his sole appearance for Nigeria against Japan .

FC Metalurh Donetsk then took him to Ukraine on a permanent basis in 2005 and that summer Olympiacos CFP signed Babangida on a three-year contract after he impressed in a pre-season tournament in Spain . He made 25 league appearances, including eleven starts, for The Double-winners and also struck a first UEFA Champions League goal against Olympique Lyonnais , giving Olympiacos the lead in an eventual 4-1 defeat.

Babaginda under-achieved with Greek club Olympiacos in the 2005-2006 Season but the team retained him for the 2006-2007 Season .

On May 25 , 2007, Olympiakos CFP officially released Haruna Babangida.

He made his debut for Apollon Limassol on 1st of September 2007 against rival team AEL Limassol , where he scores 2 goals in an evential win of 4-3.


International career

He made his debut for Nigeria National Football Team in August 2003 against Japan .
