Haitian General Election, 2000

Haiti 's general elections of 2000 featured a presidential race, as well as elections for the Chamber Of Deputies and the Senate . These elections were widely dismissed by the OAS and USA as fraudulent. The huge share of election winners is partly explained by the fact that major opposition groups boycotted elections. There is a dispute about the nature of elections. Others say that Lavalas party and Aristide were violating democracy while other commentators think that opposition - representatives of economic elite - refused to participate in democratic elections since they know that they will lose them. The article in New Left Review holds, that the problem OAS found in election did not have effect to results. According to Centre for International Policy the elections were Haiti's best so far.http://newleftreview.org/A2507
