- The plans for Grayson were started in the mid-90s to lessen the overcrowding of nearby high schools of South Gwinnett and Brookwood . A committee of educators from Gwinnett County met together to create and discuss specifications for the facility. The school officially opened in 2000. Currently, the principal of the school is Keith Chaney.
- The school derived its name from the school that originally joined with Snellville High School to form South Gwinnett in 1957.
