''Gift'' was only released by Universal following the success of Curve 's self-release of '' Open Day At The Hate Fest ''. Universal had been threatening to shelve the album (and Curve was involved in legal battles to salvage some of the material from the album) but capitulated, selling it under the Hip-O brand.
