One of the continued missions of the Gesundheit! Institute involves the concept of Humanitarian Clowning . The project uses the theme of laughter as an integral element of effective doctoral care. In the past, the Gesundheit! Institute has taken clowns into the war zones in Bosnia , refugee camps in the Republic Of Macedonia , as well as South African AIDS orphanages. IN FILM Hollywood turned the story of Patch Adams ' journey from struggling medical student to visonary healer in a major motion picture in 1998. The film, ''Patch Adams'' , starred comedian Robin Williams in the title role, and whose composer ( Marc Shaiman ) was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Music, Original Musical Or Comedy Score .
