HISTORY

The FME Department was established in 2000 and it is located in the Aegean Island of Chios. The Department offers currently one Undergraduate programme in Financial and management Engineering . The length of the studies is a five-year (ten semesters) minimum. The first students enrolled in the Academic Year of 2000-2001.


PURPOSE

The aim of the FME Department is to train a new generation of Specialized engineers. In July 2001 , a special meeting was organized for the formation of the core of studies at the Department. In this meeting, Renown ed Scientist s from the largest Universities of Greece and abroad, together with business representatives, developed the Department's curriculum.

A new meeting is planned to combine the new Scientific Knowledge available, together with the important experiences from the first three years of actual operation. The results of this meeting will be utilized for the enrichment and improvement of the curriculum.


COURSE OBJECTIVES

The Department's 5-year undergraduate curriculum is comprised of main, track, and elective courses. A final year project undertaken during the ninth and completed during the tenth semester. The courses are selected from a total of 95 courses offered by the department. Internships are coordinated in order to provide professional experience in the relevant fields.


Main Courses


  • 42 core program courses taught during the first three years of study to all tracks:

  • 10 science courses (mathematics, Physics , Chemistry , biology)

  • 6 engineering courses

  • 7 Economics and financial courses

  • 9 management courses

  • 5 Information Technology courses

  • 3 Social Sciences courses

  • 2 English for Specific Purposes (ESP) courses



Track Courses

Seven compulsory track courses exist, mainly taught during the fourth and fifth years of study. These track courses are relevant to a specialization area chosen by the student.


Elective Courses

Students are given a choice of three out of ten elective courses allowing further specialization within the framework of the track. Three general electives are selected from a group of enrichment courses, geared towards the development of creativity and skills essential to Financial and Management Engineers.
